LAFTC Announces Event Tracks and Schedule for May Event

The Los Angeles Fire Training Conference (LAFTC), Powered by iFIRE International, has announced its schedule for this year's show taking place at the Long Beach Convention Center from May 4-6, 2020. 

The show's schedule includes concurrent sessions broken out into five tracks - Fire Dynamics, Firefighter Safety & Health, Fireground Tactics, Leadership and Officer Development. 

The  LAFTC will kick off with a must-see main session presentation by former Shreveport (LA) Fire Chief Brian Crawford focused who will present his signature program  All-In Commitment – Fire Leaderships’ Greatest Strategy. Chief Crawford will be followed by a joint presentation by FDNY Deputy Chief Joe Jardin and Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Derek Alkonis who will provide an Introduction to the Fundamentals of Fire Control Within a Structure Utilizing Fire Dynamics.

Jeff Banman, Executive Director of Operation Mindset Foundation, will present in the Officer Development track on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Operation Mindset is a culmination of more than 30 years of experience, learning, research, education and practical application and has been delivered to more than 7,500 people across the fire service, law enforcement, military and intelligence communities. 

Are you an aspiring fire officer preparing to promote?  You won’t want to miss Scott Campos and Johnny Green, Battalion Chief and Captain of the L.A. Fire Department respectively as they present Preparing for the Candidate Interview on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. This presentation is designed to provide attendees with a step-by-step process on how to overcome the challenges of an oral interview and how to best sell yourself as the most qualified candidate. To ensure each attendee is set up for success they will be given a comprehensive list of practice questions and a how to guide that will help you prepare for a successful candidate interview.

In addition to the breakout tracks, there will be fast-paced main sessions on a variety critical topics including:

  • The Tenants of Fire Service Leadership by Joe Castro, Retired Deputy Chief of the LA Fire Department
  • The Imperative of Departmental Culture - Leading in an Increasingly Complex World by Rob Nielsen, CEO/Founder of All American Leadership, and Rick Rochelle, Director of Public Service Leadership for All American Leadership
  • What Do You Stand For? - Closing Keynote Address by Chad Cook, Deputy Chief Ventura County Fire Department
